Planting Pink Tulips in River Park for Breast Cancer Awareness Month October 19, 2006

April 23, 2007 - You can just barely see the outline of the pink tulips showing through.  Check back for more updates!

“In October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, over 130,000 tulips will be planted across Canada to salute the Representatives, Customers and Canadian women who have joined the fight against breast cancer”, says Diane Kirkpatrick, District Sales Manager, Avon Canada . Avon Canada has raised over $12.5 million dollars for breast cancer research through its Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.  So, Thursday, October 19, 2006 found a number of us in River Park taking part in the Avon project of planting pink tulips in the shape of the Breast Cancer ribbon logo.  A pile of dirt was placed in the park and then a trench dug for the bulbs.  Rumour has it that dog hair sprinkled on the bulbs will keep away the creatures who enjoy tulips with their evening libation:)  Come to the park next spring, late May we are told, and see the fruits of our labours.
