July 12, 2006 - Traffic in North Hatley!?!

Franklin and Martha Satterthwaite were spotted traveling through town this morning.  Franklin commented that they had left for the club in early 2006 and hoped to be there soon.  The current traffic tie-ups in the center of North Hatley are something we are not used to.  A smooth trip, avoiding a few bicycles is the usual, but not today and not for the next four months.  The installation of new storm sewers, of impressive capacity, is estimated to take until the fall.  The center of town should improve first according to those in the know.

In the meantime, we all will have to plan our trips more efficiently.  A quick trip to LeBaron's now means a wait for single file traffic across the bridge, down River Street, up Jackson Heights and Reed Hill down Sherbrooke Hill and left at St. Barnabas Church onto School Street to access Main Street from the south end of town.  Two tourist buses were seen struggling mightly to get up Reed Hill this morning.

By the way, a very puzzled laundress was heard to express dismay that the water had been turned off in the middle of her wash cycle.  The kind folks at LeBaron's told her they would keep an eye on things and would let her know when the water was turned on again.  This kind of helpfulness is why we live here!

Should you want to continue your trip up to the North Hatley Golf Club via Chemin Massawippi think again.

There is  another detour.  Take Lake Road to the PV Beach.  Turn left up Highland Street  and then turn right onto Massawippi.  McKay Street is blocked off.  I wonder how Dara and Stan are getting home?

Trip Recipe:  A touch of light music (Strauss Waltzes are wonderful), open up a crossword or sudoku puzzle (bring a pencil sharpener) and add a generous pinch of  humour.

Congratulations to the VIS who planted those gorgeous window boxes along the bridge.  This year we all have plenty of time to admire them!

PS: While you are waiting, will you pinch off the dead blossoms and weed?
